BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – An adult man was killed in a shooting on the 4100 block of Christmas Tree Lane, Bakersfield Police officials said Monday and another was escorted from a home placed in a police vehicle.

The Bakersfield Police Department said that at about 4:51 a.m., Shawn Christian Ibarra, 35, armed himself with a breaker bar and was trying to force his way into a residence at 4100 block of Christmas Tree Lane, and then proceeded to kick in the front door. He was then shot by another man in the house, which resulted in the death of Ibarra. 

The BPD said that Ibarra was on Post Release Community Supervision, commonly known as AB109.

After the incident, Christmas Tree Lane was blocked off from Columbus Street to Bonaire Street.

Police believe the homeowners and Ibarra knew one another.

There are currently not charges pending against the home owner, and the investigation into the events surrounding this shooting is on-going.

The case will be sent to the Kern County District Attorney’s Office for review.
